Mandate and missions

The National Civil Society Committee for the Sahrawi Cause is one of the thirteen standing committees provided for in the statutes (art. 24), and carries the objective of supporting just causes, foremost the Sahrawi cause (art. 5). It raises awareness of the Sahrawi people’s right to self-determination and of the need to complete the decolonisation of Western Sahara, in line with UN principles and resolutions and with Algeria’s steadfast position.

It coordinates member associations’ initiatives on this file and prepares the Bloc’s contributions to international forums, including the work of the UN General Assembly’s Fourth Committee. It may involve international-law experts from outside the Bloc (art. 25) and submits a monthly report to the National Executive Bureau.

  • Raise awareness of the Sahrawi cause and its UN legal basis.
  • Prepare the Bloc’s statements and files for international forums, including the UN Fourth Committee.
  • Coordinate member associations’ solidarity initiatives with the Sahrawi people.
  • Hold seminars and solidarity days, notably on the anniversary of the SADR’s proclamation (27 February).
