Membership options

Four ways to belong

Membership of the Bloc is a two-way commitment: the statutes grant members rights to take part, speak and stand for office, and set out their duties towards the Bloc and its objectives. This guide summarises the main statutory provisions on membership and the path from application to membership card.

Member

For citizens who wish to serve in the Bloc’s structures and committees, abiding by the statutes and paying dues.

Member association or organisation

For registered associations and organisations committing to the Bloc’s objectives (art. 12). The National Council approves membership.

Honorary member / supporter

Granted to personalities and institutions that have rendered or can render distinguished service, on the bureau’s proposal.

Volunteer

To contribute expertise or time to specific activities without a standing organisational commitment (art. 30).

Rights

A member’s rights

  • Take part in deliberations and vote in the bodies and structures one belongs to, provided dues are up to date (art. 22).
  • Stand for office under the statutory conditions; standing for the Bloc’s bureau requires National Council membership (art. 14).
  • Speak freely in discussion sessions on every matter under consideration (art. 4).
  • Contribute to the standing committees and wilaya coordinations according to one’s skills (arts. 24–25).
  • Be informed of the Bloc’s activities, programmes and approved reports.
  • Benefit from the Bloc’s training and experience-sharing programmes (art. 5).
Duties

A member’s duties

  • Respect the statutes and internal rules, apply the Bloc’s programme and work towards its objectives (art. 11).
  • Pay the dues set by the National Council (arts. 22 and 27).
  • Attend meetings regularly: three consecutive absences within three months without a valid written excuse lead to loss of membership (art. 13).
  • Never use the Bloc’s name or one’s membership for partisan purposes, out of respect for its independence (art. 57).
  • Uphold the national constants and the principles of the 1 November 1954 Proclamation, and reject violence and intolerance (arts. 3–4).
  • Respect the decisions of the competent bodies and work as a team within committees and structures.

  4. ApprovalThe competent bodies decide under the statutes; the National Council approves new member associations and organisations.
