Aicha Ramdani to Echaab: the new traffic law responds to civil society’s calls

Ms Aicha Ramdani, a member of the national bureau of Hisn Al-Mateen Bloc Foundation and of the National Civil Society Observatory, gave an important statement to the daily Echaab on the new traffic law, which she described as an advanced national step and a genuine response to the calls of civil society.

Ms Ramdani stressed that the recent amendments to the traffic law aim to strengthen road safety, reduce road accidents and protect lives and property — demands that civil society, including Hisn Al-Mateen Bloc, had raised in several reports and proposals submitted to the relevant authorities.

She emphasised that the State had listened carefully to citizens’ concerns, and that the spirit of the new law is both humane and deterrent, through:

  • tougher penalties for dangerous behaviour;
  • stronger road-safety awareness;
  • keeping pace with technical and legal developments to protect road users.

She also noted that the law truly reflects the strength of civil society as a partner in decision-making, and helps spread a new road culture based on responsibility, discipline and respect for the lives of others.

Ms Ramdani concluded by affirming that she will continue her field and awareness work in support of all national initiatives aimed at protecting citizens’ lives and raising road-safety awareness.
