Hisn Al-Mateen Bloc rejects European Parliament decision to list Algeria as a “high-risk” country

Regarding the European Parliament's decision to place Algeria on the list of “high-risk” countries for money laundering and terrorist financing.
In a move that can only be described as politicised and selective, the European Parliament voted for a decision placing Algeria on the list of countries classified as financially “high-risk”.
We at the Hisn Al-Mateen Bloc express our firm rejection of this unjust decision and condemn it as a departure from the rules of international cooperation and respect for sovereignty, and a dangerous shift in the way the European Union deals with a strategic partner such as Algeria.
The decision is neither innocent nor technical; it carries clear political overtones, especially given the welcome it received from far-right currents in Europe, led by French MEP Laurence Trochu, who has repeatedly disparaged Algeria and its institutions.
Algeria is a sovereign state carrying out far-reaching financial and economic reforms, and it does not accept dictates or unfair classifications. Such decisions will only make our people and institutions more united and more attached to their independent national choices.
We warn of the consequences of this classification for economic relations between Algeria and Europe, and regard it as a negative signal at a time when Algeria is diversifying its international partnerships, particularly in Africa and Asia.
The Hisn Al-Mateen Bloc affirms its full support for the Algerian state in the face of this classification and calls on elites, civil society and financial institutions to strengthen the home front against external blackmail under the guise of “transparency”.
Algeria is not in the dock; it is an independent partner that some seek to besiege. Our voice will remain loud in defence of national sovereignty.
Long live Algeria.
Long live the national institutions.
Long live true international justice.
